Q: Just wanted to contact you. Have you or anyone else on here been feeling a spiritual block these past few weeks? Usually, I do something big for Samhain, as I am an eclectic pagan. This year, I did nothing at all. I can’t seem find any motivation and was wondering if anyone else is feeling that way.
~ John H.
A: Hi, John. I think we all encounter spiritual blocks at times. The most authentic way to deal with the situation is to honour any feelings of limitation you may have. Spiritual and creative energies ebb and flow as part of a natural cycle. Every period of activity requires a period of rest, and every period of rest gives rise to renewed activity. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re feeling uninspired, as it’s often temporary. Your pantheon, as well as the universe will understand if you need time out for rest and self-care. Trust the process and you’ll emerge anew when the time is right.
In other words, let yourself unblock naturally. You might want to get some body work done, meditate, clear your chakras, work with crystals and re-attune with your spiritual guidance. For pagans, that usually means their goddesses and gods. For Kemetic pagans, we call upon the netjeru. Allow yourself all the time and support you need to foster new growth.
I feel there are other, deeper layers to this story I also want to share. The truth is, I think a lot of us are experiencing a spiritual block right now, due to outside circumstances occurring in the middle east. This is something that may or may not resonate with you, and only you can decide whether or not it actually applies to you.
Looking at the violence, chaos and death happening in the world at this time is quite grim. According to Al Jazeera, at the time of this post the latest death toll stands at over 10,000 Palestinians and at least 1,405 people were killed in Israel since October 7. Those of us who are empaths, or people who are otherwise sensitive to energies, will be feeling a lot of feedback about this situation on many levels. A high incidence of violence, such as this is absolutely capable of causing a spiritual block in sensitive people.
That’s what acts of violence and terror are meant to do; they’re meant to limit our options for consciousness on planet Earth. They’re meant to make you vibrate with sorrow, fear and uncertainty for the future, so please take care of yourself and the vibration you carry, that is the best way to resolve the sense of spiritual block imposed on us by the current psychic climate.
The netjeru are telling me, “Consciousness is key; consciousness is your ankh, the key of life. On earth, your ankhs are etched in stone, or made of materials like brass, wood, clay, or resin to represent our reality. In our world, what do you think ankhs are made of? What gives rise to the energies that constitute the key of life? The consciousness of the god who holds the key of life determines the key’s properties and thus, what the key unlocks or creates. You are learning this, you are learning how to do this, how to conduct yourself properly [spiritually] and how to conduct your own conscious energy to create an ankh of your own. Not out of metal, wood or clay but out of conscious energy, the creative essence, the very same essence from which our ankhs are made. We see you learning how to do this, how to access the technology of the gods, and we applaud you.”
Some people might point out, that a lot of acts of violence are happening on the planet all the time, how is this any different? To that, I would acknowledge it’s true, there are a plethora of positive and negative occurrences on Earth at any given moment and together, those events energetically cancel each other out to remain neutral. An orchestrated event of terrorism, however, tips the balance and that’s what’s happening now, hence the spiritual block I suspect many people are feeling. Maybe we were tipping the balance in a positive direction previously, and those in favour of chaos and evil or isfet chose to do something about it to limit our frequency? Let that be food for thought!
Since October 7, each night before bed, I thank our world leaders for making peace a priority, for sparing lives, for finding safe solutions and for allowing aid to reach displaced people. I imagine the people in Gaza are safe, with access to everything they need, with functioning hospitals, schools and so forth. I imagine happy children playing in safety. I do this over and over again until I fall asleep imagining it. Some people reading this might think it sounds like a fantasy, nothing more, but this is where our spiritual block is and peace is the vibration we need, in order to restore the balance. By all means, take part in peaceful action if you feel guided to do so, get involved in activism. Everyone has their own way of helping to re-establish peace.
Lately, while I’m on break at work, I am quite suddenly struck with a vision of a child’s face frozen with pain, fear and anguish, a child who died in Gaza, and I have to help free that child’s soul very carefully, so that it doesn’t fall apart and die a second death, then get it to move into the light safely. It’s traumatic even for me, just to feel and witness; I have to balance that reality with the demands of everyday life, and people who have little understanding of spiritual and energetic realities. It’s a challenge to be a spiritual person; we are pioneers of consciousness and frequency and it’s not always easy. These, however, are definitely first world problems. If we turn our attention back to the suffering of innocents, we need to do everything we can to help them live in a better, safer world.
In closing, yes, it’s completely normal to get a spiritual block at times and there may be internal and external factors contributing to your state of well-being. Take a step back and get in touch with what’s really affecting you. Only then will you know how to best unblock and get back into the flow of your own mind, body and souls’ continuum. Thank you for reading Kemetic Blog, stay safe and well!

November 12, 2023 at 9:18 pmYou’re welcome, I could have said more but my word count starts asking too much of people. Let’s just say, the energy around us is really heavy right now. Do what helps you stay positive. 🙂

November 12, 2023 at 8:52 pmHello Scott, I want to thank you for answering reader’s questions, because I have been wondering about this same question. Lately I have felt exhausted and not connected to the spiritual realm like I normally am, where I can usually feel things naturally with ease. At the moment I would describe myself as feeling numb when it comes to this and I was beginning to wonder what’s going on and concerned that I might need to work harder about connecting with spirituality or whether I have lost this connection, so I feel relieved after reading your response. I also want to thank you for the interesting articles you write, I am learning a lot from you and I look forward to reading your next article.

November 12, 2023 at 10:07 pmHi, Jason. Thank you for your kind comment. You’re definitely not alone. It’s common for spiritually and energetically sensitive people to feel blocked, fatigued, etc as a result of the spiritual and energetic work we are doing. I have more to say on the topic, and now that I know people are interested in this area, I know where to place my focus. Thanks again for your engagement. 🙂
